    Substrate correlated to urination frequency?

When i first got my python i kept him on newspaper, and that was fine, but now that it is winter and the humidity had dropped i switched him to shredded aspen with newspaper underneath. The thing that i am concerned about is that he seemed to be urinating and defecating more often when he was on just the newspaper. Currently my temps are 92F on the hot side, 80F on the cool, a humidity of ~50%. He has 2 hides a water bowl and eats a hopper/small mouse regularly once every 5-7 days and weighs 190g.
Do you think it could just be that he is growing and he will go when he needs no mater what the substrate is or could this be a factor?

    Thanks
    Tim

I seriously doubt there is anything else going on. You probably just noticed it more on paper... when I switched to paper my first thought was that my snake was peeing more often.

Even now, if I do not check them for a few days, I do not see the urine, but I can see the wrinkly effect on the paper.

They pee constantly. I think BPs just have a slow leaking valve that on occastion actually does flood.
