So saturday (pamona show) is coming and I want a boa... i have been looking online at pics for weeks reading caresheets... read every square inch of rio bravo (multiple times on some of it)...

I have a 41qt tub that is set up right now and working perfectly for the boa, except it has newspaper substrate not aspen... Ima pick up some aspen and a real thermostat at the show (if im getting a BCC i dont want to be using acurites and rheostats). Since ambient temps may possibly be an issue I will be using 2 UTH's (probably just flexwatt) running at the warm and cool temps. Provided I get a good thermostat that should be no problem right?

Now i just have to figure out what kind of boa I want...

#1 choice is the Surinames- I love the light body with really red tail. The more reading I have done I am getting scared of the husbandry aspect. I seem to hear more horror stories than success stories. I'm up for a challenge but it seems like an almost impossible battle. Whats the diff between the suri's and the guyanas?

#2 Peruvian- the pics I have seen of these are very pretty and they sound like a fun snake to own. Are they a bit hardier than the suri's? While I don't anticipate husbandry issues, I don't want to be on edge for a week after feeding praying that it wont regurg.

I really like the high contrast look of both of these types of snakes and the fact that they keep that into adulthood. I have seen many adult columbians and dont really care for the look of them because they all seem to brown out extensively. Salmon boas are nice but I havent seen any with the high contrast that i really like. Same with pastels.

Price is a definite consideration, but that doesn't mean I'm not willing to pay to get exactly what I want. I cant afford 5-600+ but from what I have seen, pretty much everything I am describing falls within the 3-400 range (especially if I'm going to a show and paying cash).

in a nutshell: I'm willing to put in the time and effort to care for a fragile snake like a suriname however I'm wondering if a peruvian might be easier to care for and still keep the high contrast brilliance into adulthood?
