i got my snake 2 weeks ago and he/she has only pooed once that i can find. It might even have been urates (kinda yellowish green.) Hes eaten 3 pinkies since ive gotten him. One a few days after i got him and two today (day 14)

This is my first snake- is this normal? i also dont know if i should move off of pinkies and onto something bigger.

are you talking about pinky rats? how old is your snake? if it's a couple months old, it can either eat an adult mouse or rat pup. One reason why your snake hasn't pooped is because he's absorbing and using everything that he can from the carcass, leaving little waste behind. I'd bump up your prey size a bit. They can handle prey that's as big as the widest part of your BP's 'stomach'.

Ok. So how long or how many feedings should a young snake (six months) go without pooing?

if it's 6 months, I would definately go with a rat pup. if you feed every 5-7 days, expect a bowel movement every feeding, or every other. sometimes they like to wait until they shed as well, it varies from snake to snake, and on how much and how often you feed them.

Well I don't know how old the OP's snake is. But I was going to post a similar question cause our girl (we were told that she is about six months) has not pooed that we have seen since we got her, and we got her On the sixth. She has had three feedings (medium feeder mice). We tried setting her in warm water, but she just instantly crawls out. Her rear end is looking kind of bloated.

i am feeding him pinkie mice- thats what they said at the pet store to use untill i was sure he was a good eater. (which he is) an adult mouse is a little fatter then the fattest part of our snake.- can i get a juvenille mouse from petco/petsmart

I hate to tell you this but the person that adviced you to feed your BP pink mice is an idiot. Just because someone works at a petshop or owns a petshop does not mean that they know anything about the animals that they sell and sadly it is like this in almost every pet industry. Depending on the size and age of your snake I would start it off on rat pinks if it is small but if it is a little larger I would just feed it rat pups. A 120-140 gram snake can very easily eat rat pups without a problem. Ball pythons should never be fed pink mice.

I would say adult mice or rat pups....Probably better to feed rat pups so you dont have to switch them later on.... Congratulations on the purchase of the new ball python anyway....

And dont worry about them not pooping...If they didnt get anything (any kind of bedding ie: aspen,bark, etc...) in together with their food, it SHOULDNT be any problem... They'll poop when they need to....

I just wanted to say you e guys have been very helpful. This forum is awsome! I dont think he could have gotten any substrate in with his food (ive only fed out of his enclosure)

but anyway I will bump him up to f/t adult mice and then f/t rat pups! thanks for the advice.
