    Newbie here

Hey everyone- just posted a question about ambient temps being higher then bellies with a CHE and moonlight.. but i wanted to introduce myself! Me and my girlfriend just got a new BP- (Our first snake) and have enjoyed your forum.

We got our snake from petsmart and are wondering if there is anyway to know its a male? id assume theyd sell males because they are cheaper (they could make more money) i find it had to believe theyd sell both for the same price.

Popping and probing are two methods I know of, but you shouldn't try those unless you know what you're doing because you can harm the snake. You can take it to a vet and ask them to check for you.

i guess i am assumeing petsmart wouldnt sell females for 60$ as well as males. and i assume mine is a male then- (because theyd make more money off it that way)

    Is this a poor assumption?

Petsmart and other chain stores get snakes of both sexes in and do not bother to check sexes. They sell them all for the same price as unsexed.

It is up to there supplier as to the male to female ratio the store gets. They may get more males because the breeder makes more money, but I've heard of lots of people getting females from chain stores.

    Don't assume anything.

We got our girl from a smaller pet shop, we have gone back several times to try and find a male with no luck. We also tried a few other shops around, but the big chain stores had very skinny looking balls, ours was a bit on the thin side when we got her but the ones we sall at the larger chain stores looked like pensils. But to help you out check for the non intrusive ways to sex, they are not 100% but you will have a better idea. There are many vids up on youtube including many by breeders. I could try and explain one way but I would probably get you lost, so I recomend a vid.
    good luck

Also I almost forgot, a lot of chain stores look for the cheepest deal when ordering animals. And even though they tell you your snake was cb ch it may still be wb. Even I have been tempted by those great deals, but a snake in the wild should stay there. To let you know there was one site I found that was sellinf wc/wb/ch snakes of different ages in bulk 50-100 snakes for $75-$125. So be careful, you won't know much about his/her genetics, or background.
