Transporting in winter

I put this in another place but I think this seems like a better spot ... sorry for the double post...

We have a vet appt. for Wed and it's cold here in MD esp in the mountains. I need to transport in this cold weather. I am SEVERELY allergic to the heating packs ... you know the camping ones ... so I was thinking of one of those rice packs ... I use them for my joints and back ... nothing in them but rice ... they hold heat for a LONG time do you think it would be fine to use that instead?

are you walking? just heat up your car. You could put the snake in your jacket between the door and the car. I just drove home from school with my snakes in the truck with me, I just let the truck heat up before I brought my snakes in. I brought a thermometer with me too just to make sure it didn't get too hot (I never realized how hot those heaters can get)

Duh!! What was I thinking?!?! sometimes ... ugh I swear I am losing my flippin mind!


Oh ... hubby just reminded me I will have to drive around the block a fw times to get the heat flowing ... I drive a Passat TDI takes FOREVER to get the heat going LMAO ... ehhh I can still do it that way!

I use a small plastic cooler with a heat pack, and just et my car nice and warm before I leave.

what kinda of heat pack?

if i really needed a heat source could i use the rice pack neck wrap thing or the instant warmer with the gel and the metal disc? ....

If you cannot use Heat Pack

Get a hot water bottle fill it up with hot water, wrapped it up in some towel so the snake bag is not directly in contact with the hot water bottle, place it in an insulated box place, place the snake bag in the box, close the box and you’re done.

The chemical reaction in the little heat packs that get warm when they hit the air ... something to do with the metals ... I get horrible hives, eyes swell almost shut, that's just from the first few minutes, and it can take up to a week to clear up... it's awful! It's too bad they are nifty little things .... *sigh*

I use a hot water bottle too. I put it in a small styrofoam cooler and make sure the truck is warmed up ahead of time.
