Rack spacing Issues

I had a few issues with my last rack and don't wand to make the same mistake again.

I need to secure my flexwatt enough so that it is not removed everytime I pull the container out

1. What tape is best for securing the flexwatt
2. Is a CD the best method for creating enough spacing for each shelf above the container?

Well, I use UTH pads on my rack, but to raise the tubs up I used 1/4" thick poplar wood strips from Lowes. They work great and raise the tub to just the right height. Something like that should work for flexwatt as well.

I use the foil duct tape to secure the heat tape.

A CD works well, or a piece of thick construction paper.

Foil tape works well for securing flexwatt for under cage applications. It can be found at Home Depot and Lowes in the A/C and Heating duct work lanes.

For spacing bins I like to make (cut) a wood spacer so that it's 1/16" - 1/8" taller than the bin.

I just cut 2 blocks 1/8" taller than the tubs as a jig.

For the flexwatt, I use foil tape. Works like a charm.

I like the Jig Idea(2 blocks...slightly taller then the tubs).....I am going to Be building my first rack tommorrow. If I like the finished product enough I will build another. I just wish I could still find Sterilite 32 qt 1756 tubs.

The reason blocks work so much better is, they do not give. When you place a tub upside down on your spacer and place the shelf on the tub, pressure can cause the tub to "squish" down. This can make your tubs tight if you are not careful. Plus, if you are building several racks with the same tubs, it makes thing so much faster. If you have access to finish nailers, you can assemble a 10 space rack in about 10 minutes. Just be sure to screw everything after it's all nailed together and make sure you nail stright in to avoid blowouts.

I realize that Sterilite is "industry standard" but if you can't find them locally, I would go to your nearest Container Store and buy some Iris brand tubs. They can also be ordered from their website in a comparable size.

I've used Sterilite for years, and as I add racks and tubs to my collection, I'm going Iris. There are NO grooves or indents in the tub, and cleaning is 100 times easier.

I bought 30 Rubbermaid 2221's I hope it doesnt turn out being a mistake. Thanks for the advice....the closet container store to me is 2 Hours or more of a drive. I do like the Iris tubs however.
