Just kind of an off-shoot of my which browser poll, I've got a question for all the developers around here. Anyone working with websites knows how much of a pain it is to get full cross-browser compatibility, and that's the problem I'm running into right now. I've got my site pretty much finished, but now I'm running into some weird bug with IE6 and floating div's. The site displays perfectly in Firefox, and near perfect in Safari and Opera. For some reason though, the sidebar drops down to the bottom of the page and runs the full width when viewed under IE. The last time I messed around with developing a site was back when CSS was just first coming out, and I'm already getting tired of dealing with the quirks of IE. Anyone run into this problem before and can point me in the right direction?

I've run into a few problems like that, and developing Gerry Guerra's site of ssscales.com. A lot of the stuff I've added such as .PNG format images, and the onMouseOver scripts I typed up for it had a very difficult time displaying in older browsers like IE 6.0, but newer, more up to date browsers had no difficulty what so ever displaying them. I'd shoot Nate here a PM. He's helped me the entire way through getting into programming....which has been pretty difficult since I'm so stuck on photography and metallurgy LOL. I'm sure he could help you out. Good luck!

IF you go to my site in IE6, there is a popup that say this site is not going to look as nice in IE6, and recommends an upgrade. There comes a time when you have to stop trying to program for every possible browser, and just focus on the bigg'ns. IE7 IS part of the Windows Update, and should be on most people pcs by now (as automatic updates are always on by default). IE8 is just around the corner for a full release ...

Point being that even if you are unable to get the site fully IE6 compatible, I wouldn't pull my hair out over it. Just move on and blame Microsoft .. that's what I do.

It's a pretty serious pain in the ass. IE7 has been out long enough that IE6 doesn't really matter anymore but still you should at least test in 2-3 different browsers. All of my sites are at least IE7+, Firefox, Opera, and Safari compatible. With that said I'm not looking forward to IE8.

For me it's more so a pain when one of my PHP/MySQL scripts has issues with different browsers, cause sometimes it takes longer than I'd like to figure it out.

Nothing more that I can really add, other than research IE hacks - although, I never do it because like Cuda said, IE6 is just a waste of time to deal with.

Are you sure about that? I see it in the source, but when I loaded it in IE6 nothing happened.
