    Looks like I am here!

Ok ... I just acquired a Boa he/she is shedding ... but I think it just maybe a red tailed it's hard to tell with the loose skin. In my intro post in the general python forums I mentioned he had been living under my cabinets in my kitchen ... he had no where to soak and no good place to rub up against. Now he had a nice water dish and a bark tunnel the combo should help him out

I do have a question ... we fed him chicken livers yesterday while we were trying to lure him out last night... How long should I wait before I offer him a mouse?! he is about 5ish feet...

    check out this caresheet:

and offer an appropriately sized rodent(at 5 foot probably a rat), ideally as thick as the thickest part of the snake, a little smaller is fine. I usually wait a week after re-homing a snake to let them acclimate before feeding, but if the snake is a wild rescue it might be underfed and appreciate some food before then.. Since you already fed it recently I'd wait a week.

buy more than one if you plan to keep him. frozen critters can last as long as 6 months if vacuum sealed.

LaFilleClochette, he was lucky enough that the snake found him, he didn't buy it.

Re: Looks like I am here!

I started off only getting one mouse at a time for feeding my BP when I first got her, mostly an excuse to visit the reptile shop more often just for fun

    Now I get 4 at a time.

    "a rat really!?!?! WOW!! AWESOME!!!"

Probably! Red tails are pretty girthy compared to some snakes like.. corn snakes for example. It's pretty standard practice for many snakes to feed once a week, and as I previously said to feed a prey item that is as thick as the thickest part of the snake. I just said rat because I'm assuming that a 5 foot boa is quite thicker than my 2008 ball python that is up to eating small adult mice.

I'm no expert on red tailed boas, but I hope that I'm helping you find some of the more basic info on them
