2x pinkies a week
Does anyone offer 2 pinkies a week for their corns that are too small for fuzzies but too large for 1 pinky? One pinky barely makes a bulge in my snake but she certainly couldn’t handle a fuzzy mouse. Also, after she swallows one pinky she almost always pokes her head of the hide as if to look for more food. Is feeding 2 pinkies ever necessary before switching to fuzzies?
Another quick question, do corns have faster metabolisms than most snakes? A couple times I’ve fed Akasha and the night of the feeding she is still out and about exploring the tank rather than soaking up the heat for digestion. If they do have quicker metabolisms can they be handled sooner after a feed? Just curious. Thanks.

Yes most ratsnakes have a much higher metabolism then boids. I feed any small corn or ratsnake 2 pinks as a buffer to the fuzzy, however most will take a fuzzy with little trouble.

Re: 2x pinkies a week
I agree, I was feeding my milk snake 2 pinkies in one feeding for some time. At first I would do a large pinky, then the next week 2 small pinkies, and vary depending on what selection of food I had for it. It didn't take long to not notice a lump from 2 normal sized pinkies and move up to fuzzies though.

Re: 2x pinkies a week
Yes, as a matter of fact. I have four hatchling corns at the moment, I moved the two largest up to 2 pinkies a week just last night. Both of them seemed happy for the extra pinkie and it went right down.
I am going to be feeding them every 7 days now though, it was every 6 before with only 1 pinky. The breeder I got them from said all of them could be on 2 a week but I'm going to wait a bit, probably until next year, until I offer 2 at a time to the other two. They aren't as long or as big around.

Re: 2x pinkies a week
Thanks everyone. I think I'll try two mice the next time and switch to feeding every 7 days rather than 5.
And Trent, a hatchling corn can handle pinky mice from the get go.

Re: 2x pinkies a week
I did that with my Children's Python. Started with 1 pinky, then used 2 pinkies until I felt he was big enough to handle a fuzzy.

What kind of python? Ball pythons can usually start out on hoppers or small mice.
