    Piebald Breeding

So I was talking to a friend of mine and he was telling me that it takes longer for Pieds to mature to "breeding age". So let's say that it would take a normal male 1 1/2 years to get to breeding age and a normal female 3 years... he was saying it takes like 2 1/2 years for a Pied male and about 4 years for a female...

Has anyone else ever heard this before? I mean he is a respected breeder in the area, but I had never ever heard anything like this. I've seen people on here breeding their Pieds at the "normal" ages.

    Anyone have any insight?

Can't speak for the industry as a whole, but I can say our experience with het pieds is they are slow growers. We have an 08 Mojave female who is already larger than our 07 Het pied female and the males are pretty much the same way.

    Re: Piebald Breeding

Nope. Not true at all. My original hets were '03s, bred at 20 months in 05 and produce 9 healthy babies including 4 pieds. The next season produced 8 more healthy babies including 4 more pieds. My original het female is over 4000 grams.

I held back a pair of pieds and the male produced his first offspring at just over 18 months old. I also held back a few more possible hets and some pastel het pieds that are just now 18 months and are around 1300 grams each. I'm breeding my female pied for the first time this season. I wanted to get more size on her and she's around 2100 grams now.

I guess it depends on who you get your pieds from. I've never had an issue with any of mine.

Okay I was just making sure... I thought it was kind of weird that only one morph of ball pythons takes an extra year or so to breed haha

Out of around 20 or so 08's I have right now my female pied is probably my fastest grower. They are all different.
