Re: what should i get?
I personally like spotted pythons. They are pretty cool looking. Maybe a woma for you?
A carpet isn't all that thick but are a bit longer. All ones to look into. Sorry, I'm not too into boas atm!

BCI
BCC
Jungle Carpet Python
Coastal Carpet Python
Centralian Carpet Python
Brazilian Rainbow Boa
Super Dwarf Reticulated Python
Cornsnake
Bullsnake
Rat Snake
Green Tree Python
Emerald Tree Boa
A ton of snakes fall in 6'-8'...some might be on the "smaller" end, but it all really depends on what you like.

Re: what should i get?
And if you're looking for something bigger than a BP, do remember that length isn't all that matters. jknudson mentioned corns, and yeah some can top 6', but I'm fairly sure they won't be close to the same weight as BPs.

True, but I still love them and feel obligated to mention them.
Next snake I personally get will be either a Western hognose, or a spotted python.
But womas do get about 7' and they have a pretty good temperment. Plus they are absolutely lovely!

Re: what should i get?
I have seen some really great advice posted in the threads previous to mine on species that fit your criteria. But I think the best advice that can be given to you is to do some research into the different snakes available in the herp trade. Buy a book that deals with the different genera. There are several available with loads of information. Because, at the end of the day, you are the one cleaning up the snake poop for the next 25 - 40 years.

Re: what should i get?
there's a cheap little paper back called Snakes, a Pet Owner's Manual by Richard Bartlett that has great little write ups on all the common colubrids, boas, and pythons... i highly recommend it. it's got pictures, care, size, and some natural history information for a ton of species. you can probably get it at borders or barnes and noble for less than $10.
