Shedding Questions
How often do Beardies shed and is there anything important about it that I should know?

Re: Shedding Questions
Beardies shed every so often in sections. Never will they shed everything at the same time. When you see them shedding give them a bath or two a day, it really helps and they love it. What ever you do though, do not help them in anyway or form even if a good sized peice is hanging on by a hair thin peice. I can just say helping them with their sheds ((i imagine) feels like pulling off scabs to us. Once the skin underneath is fully ready the shed will come off( Unless the humidity was off)
Hope this helps- Matt

Re: Shedding Questions
So it is not something that happens like every couple of weeks or anything then? I asked a couple of weeks ago about how long it will take for my beardi not to run from me and every one said to just give him a little while to adjust. He seems like he is getting worse though. Any time I try to even stick my hand in there with him he flares up and has bit me twice while I was holding him. He did good for a little while the other day let me grab him and hold him for awhile and then he went right back to being mean again. Whats up with that, how do I get him to stop doing that?

Very well could be a tank related problem, can you answer me these?
What type of uvb do you use /brandname
What is your substrate
how big is the tank
How hot is his basking temp
what do you measure it with?
what do you feed him
how much do you feed him
what do you dust it with?
thanks!

Re: Shedding Questions
He is in a 20 tall ( for now ) he is about 2-3 months old I think, about 4-5 inches with tail. I use calci sand, his temp stays about 80-83 day and 74 night, I use a digital thermometer. I will have to look at his lights and let you know what they are later, I cant remember off the top of my head. Probably will get back with you in the morning for more help. Thanks for the responses, I hope we can figure out what is wrong with Buddi. You have any ideas so far on what could be wrong?

Re: Shedding Questions
Basking temp is around 115 I think and I feed him about 5 small crickets 5 days a week and dust with calcium powder once a week. I give him some thawed frozen peas, carrots, mustard greens about every other day, mainly mustard greens, those are his favorite. I will check his light real quick and get back with you before I sign off.

Lower it to 100-110, he needs to be eating ALOT more, around 30-50 small crickets.

Up his bulb to a 10.0 tube light. Skip the f/t stuff out, the nutritional value is gone after you freeze them. give him a few vegies that are all fresh.

Re: Shedding Questions
What do you recommend besides calci sand? The reptile carpet? I was gonna switch to the carpet before and noticed that he like to bury himself in it at night which he really doesnt do any more. You think that not feeding him enough is making him upset? I guess there is only one way to find out huh?!!
