    Humidity issues

My BP setup consists of an UTH set at 90F and an infrared night bulb. In the daytime, the tank is only on the UTH and the ambient air is 80F to 85F. At night, the UTH will keep a warm spot under the hides, but the ambient air is 70 to 75. I use the night bulb at night which keeps the ambient in the 80's, but the bulb causes the humidity to drop between 40 and 45 whereas without the night bulb the humidity stays around 60. My question, is the ambient temp important for night hours? My BP still has the heat element to sit. If the ambient is important, is it a problem to have low humidity just at night in order to maintain ambient air temps?

well if the BP is going into shed, I would bump up the humididy, but other than that I wouldn't worry too much about humidity...IMO 40-45 is actually perfect for my BP, mine usually stays around 42-45 depending on how much water is in the moss bowl. Too much humidity can cause RI.

I would worry more about the heat. If the humidity is up to 60% in the daytime, then you should be alright. If you are worried about it, then you could mist once a night to bump it up.

Do you have a UTH or heat source on the cooler side?

I have been able to use a UTH, a Night light and keep humidity up. My ambients run 80-82. I wraped my aquarium with reflectix which can be bought at home depot. I used foil tape to tape with. Reflectix is less than $20 a roll, and I was able to wrap 5 tanks and left the top screen because they have lower humidity requirements as well as lower ambient heat needed. Humidity will go as high as needed or higher, so I added two extra vents. I open as many as needed when arround 60, and gradually close as humidity drops. It will stay between 50-60 for two to three days with misting.

I use aspen substrate, with some sphagnum moss in one corner of the hot side. Since doing this, I have not needed a humid hide, as keeping humidity 60-70 can easily be done as well. House humidity is arround 30 this time of year. Last two sheds were perfect. Before doing this I had to mist often, and add a humid at shedding time to avoid an incomplete shed.

Day two after misting with two vents shut:

Good information, thanks. I will try covering up the air vents at night and add moss to see what that does.
