"exotic roaches" illegal in Florida?

I read somewhere today that exotic pet roaches are not legal in Florida because they can thrive there naturally. Is there any truth to this? I really want some Giant Cave Roaches, Blaberus giganteus, so I'm afraid now that I won't be able to keep them.

Any info would be helpful. Also, if anyone else has kept the species, send me a PM.

I've bought roaches as feeders for my Ts and the sites won't send them to Florida, as it is the one place in the country where these roaches can survive if they escape. I've read that a ban has been in existence for about 20 years.

Its true. The same type of ban is in place for some species of Mantids as well.

i just looked this up yesterday because i wanted some aussie walking sticks.

the law states that it is illegal to bring, breed, or have any arthopod that is non-native to florida. this includes spiders and Ts as well as walking sticks but dose not include crustaceans. kinda weird that they don't include crustys but who knows why. i know you can bring crickets into florida cause ive done it but anything else is illegal.

That sucks. This mean I wont be able to feed my T's and hissing roaches?!

I dont know about the whole T's being banned because I've bought quite a few and had them shipped here. All I have to say is if you want your invert that bad hop the border to georgia for the next invert expo.

hey im a biologist and i would never release anything in to the wild. im the last person you'd have to worry about!

Geez if you have seen the size of roaches in Florida I don't see why another kinds would be that bad. The largest we saw was almost palm size which was kind of gross as it was an aquaruim/rescue and they sold food right near the infestation. The one at the entrence of the mommy ride was kind of cool like it was an "extra" in the ride lol!
