    Question UTH recommendations for me

    I have read the previous threads about UTH and i have found that you all like to know specifics before recommending products. It makes sense that all factors are important in making these decisions. I am looking into a UTH, never had one before, and there are too many choices. I would like suggestions on Brands, sizes, placement, and any other information you think would be valuable. Here is what i have. If i left off any important info, just ask!

    CURRENT SETUP
    5 ft male bp,2 ft fem bp(she is moving)
    tank = 30 gal tall glass
    room temp = 75F
    current tank temp = 80F (using 60 watt light bulb i know it's bad, hence the ?'s)
    substrate = spaghum moss
    humidity = 50% - 60%

    Okay, before the daggers start flying; i know there are 2 snakes together. i am putting the female in new tank in the same room this week. so, here is what i know about her what her tank will be.

    2 ft fem bp
    tank = 20 gal long glass
    room temp = 75F
    current tank temp = (tank not setup yet)
    substrate = Aspen Bedding
    humidity = (tank not setup yet)

    if you want to go on the cheap, flexwatt and a lamp dimmer is your way to go which is what I use now. in terms of the size stick to around 30% of your cage floor or so. The other brands are more expensive and still require a temp regulator but if they fail they are supposed to fail more "gracefully" but I have yet to have had one fail so I don't know what that means, and I've only just started using flexwatt. I have used ZooMed brand in the past with no problems.

    the biggest thing is that you get some kind of controller, regardless of that kind of UTH you get. that i can recall, i don't remember hearing of any UTH's screwing up, just the cheaper thermostats. even then, i've read about many people having luck with the off brands. my personal view- buy the good stuff first. if you have any questions on what size heaters to use, i would contact Rich with Reptile Basics. i know hes helped a lot of people with their set ups, myself included.
