Soaked My Ball Wheezed then Stopped?
Hey I was just soaking my ball python mitch to help him with his shed that he is about to have, he had the blue eyes now they are back to normal so i should expect a shed anyday right?
But....After i soaked him for a little bit i picked him up and notice he started wheezing...I was like oh great problem after problem first the mites now this?
So crazy worried i put him back in the enclosure and just checked on him and now he is not wheezing?
I know some balls can sometimes make a wheezing noise before they shed and others say that is not true?
He wheezed for about a couple mins now i havent notice him do it once since the soak?

his wheezing is most likely the water he was being soaked in getting into his air way and him exhaling water with air if you notice it again i would contact a good herp vet.

If it is possible the start of RI do they wheeze constantly or do they have periods of wheezing then stopping then wheezing, etc?

Hi,
Couple of points to cover.
Yes sometimes when they are shedding they can wheeze and make some odd noises - they are also more likely to do this when breathing heavily, from agitation or excitement at being handled or from being in strange positions that change the way they breathe.
Secondly - don't soak your snake before his shed. It can actually make his shed worse not help as you intended.
Just get his humidity in the tank up to the right level and let him shed on his own - the soaks are for if he doesn't manage to shed well on his own and still has patches left on him after a day or so in a suitably humid enclosure.

completely agree.. i've had it happen. if they tense up and hold their breathfor a little bit, they sometimes create a noise when they finally exhale.
i was holding my het hypo male last night and because he's still not too sure of being handled yet.. he was very tense and ridged, holding his breath a few times. and when he would exhale, it was i guess you could call it forceful/fast, causing tiny whistle, like a nose hair whistle (not that ive ever had one to know LOL). i wouldnt have heard it had i not had him around my neck with his face near my ear. once he relaxed it was no longer there.
but if you're worried, a check up at a good herp vet never hurts.

Re: Soaked My Ball Wheezed then Stopped?
why are you soaking your snake? shedding is already a hard enough task for them. Just get the humidity and temps right, and when they are looking like they are gonna shed just leave them be and make sure they have enough surfaces to rub the shed off on.

How long after their eyes clear up do they usually shed?

it shouldnt take more than a few days after you notice the eyes are blue-ing, you will know its really soon once the skin turns into a ghost look. also if the humidity levels are right, it will most likely happen before you know it.
***but remember just to leave them be, and check the humidity and temps.
