Mites or Paranoia
A few days ago our normal corn snake was sitting in her water bowl, odd i thought but noticed she was out of water (she is good at knocking things about) so I didn't think of much of it. I still checked her for mites and checked temps because I knew those could be problems. Nothing out of the ordinary So, today was feeding day. I went to get her out and noticed she had black spots in the water bowl. I am not sure if it is mites or what. I sprayed the cage with PAM just in case. I sprayed her with Reptirelief, wiped her with a white paper towel. I couldn't find anything on her, the towel, or in the rubbermaid tub that I put her in. Not a thing. Nothing crawling on my arms, as I put her back in her cage either.
So I pull out the tub that our new creamsicle corn is in. Mind you she is in a different area under quarantine. She is sitting in her water bowl. I notice what may be a single black spot in her water bowl. Again, not sure if it was a mite. I had treated her tub the first day I got her as well as sprayed her with Repti-relief the first day like I do with any new snakes. When I noticed her strange behavior I mopped the bottom of her tub with a white paper towel and again got NOTHING. What are the chances I am dealing with mites? I cant find anything on anyone else. All tubs are treated with Provent-A-Mite from day 1. Most of my collection is fairly new and under quarantine as it is, but I have been super careful.

Re: Mites or Paranoia
I've never experienced mites but if I remember correctly they are little black specs. Just follow the directions the PAM has and they'll be taken are of in no time.
Maybe a new snake you bought had mites that you were unaware of and you transferred them to the other tanks from your clothes or your skin?

I can be OC as well. It is better to error on the safe side than the other. With your treatment I would not have recomended a vet, but applaud you for looking out for your snakes best interest. Better safe than sorry. My corns get in their water from time to time as well, but not for long. My CA King thinks her water bowl is a hot tub I think. She loves short soaks.

I know how it is. You see one little thing that might cause a problem and go WAY overboard... I am totally OC about my snakes.... I'm so OC that I breed their prey and only use purified drinking water for them... Oi vey..
