My cuzn didnt want it anymore and i took him in. i already have him in a 30 breeder tank with 2 hides one on the warm side and one on the cool side. his basking rocks reach 128 and the cool side is 87. i am currently using crushed walnuts. he seems to have a bad shed and i have yet to see him eat. i know he need to get use to his new home so i have been leaving him alone. any info or help would great!

Re: New Uro
Hey! I had a Nigerian red male for years and years before he went to live with a breeder....
I always kept him on Zoomed sand, and then went the form-able-when-wet-sand they launched a few years ago... (Can't think of the name). I wanna say that walnut might pack him up. I also had UVA-UVB strip bulb on him during the day, and used a ceramic heat bulb for heat... He loved romaine and other dark greens, but I also treated him with crickets (3-4) 1x a week. And his absolute favorite was a parakeet seed with dehydrated strawberries in it... Small Snack Attack I think? It was made by Higgin's brand bird food. He had that 24-7 and loved it. If he looked like he needed a soak... I soaked him! As warm as I would take a bath in. He'd put his fat face underwater and love it.
So there ya go... I'm not saying that this is all by the book, but this all worked for me for many years, and I see very few Euros that were as "healthy" looking as my fella.
Grey Scale is a good thing...

Re: New Uro
www.deerfernfarms.com has great info. I rescued a couple a while back, got them nice & healthy & rehomed them to uro-friendly homes. I like them a lot, but I have too many permanent residents as it is...lol.

Re: New Uro
Oh, best stuff to feed them: As a base, Mustard, Collard, Turnip greens, Bok Choy. Then throw on there some Spring mix with Endive. About three times a week, you can throw in some frozen veggie mix (carrots, green beans, peas, etc.). Try not to feed a lot of insect matter. Mine used to love Superworms once every couple of weeks. You can try crix too (mine didn't like them). Phoenix Worms are the best insect matter out there right now, though.
Make sure to supplement with some Calcium & multivitamins at least a few times a week.
Also need a UVB light (Reptisun is the best IMO). Your temps sound good. Do you know what the humidity is? These guys like it dry. They also need a lot of space.

Re: New Uro
One more thing: Crushed walnut is not good for them. It could impact them and damage their insides. You can do Millet seed (they really enjoy these seeds as snacks, btw), or washed children's play sand (make sure it has no silica).

Re: New Uro
Lol...& you'll hear everywhere that water is terrible for them, but like Laooda, if my rescues looked dehydrated, I soaked them. & I kept a small dish with very shallow water in their enclosures.
That's it. I'm done now...promise.

Re: New Uro
ok spud has plenty of room for now i am going out this weekend to get things for him i will be changing the bedding asap. i havent checked the humidity but he seems more active now that he has settled in. he is eating his greens now and he ate 2 crickets and the info is great thanks alot. its not that he was thrown at me i just received him faster than i thought. i wasnt fully ready for him but he seems to be doing good. he and the bearded dragons had a bath yesterday. (not at the same time) he seemed like he didnt mined the water. but all is well i have a list that both uros and bearded dragons can eat so i will be getting more veggies that both can eat and some extras for each. thanks again.
