    Incubator question.

So this is a little early yet, I'm going to be trying the first pairing tonight but this will be our first breeding attempt ever. It's going to be our 650g proven bell line pastel male X an 04 1600g+ normal female (she's also a proven breeder not by me obviously).

They've both been cooling and have gone of feed for about a month plus we've got low barometric pressure around so I think tonight would be an ideal time to try for our first lock.

Now to the question. With the possibility of only one clutch this year do you guys think I should invest in a big incubator when I'm only going to use 1/20th of it or would it be better for right now to go with a hovabator or something similar? I've got an extra thermostat to hook up and extra flexwatt hanging around so I could also conceivably make my own (don't know if anyone can suggest plans for a good small DIY incubator). I'm just trying to keep it smallish because I am going to be going to school in March so I'd like to be able to take everything with me to my small apartment up there lol. Something that could fit on top of an RBI 32 qt rack would be awesome ...... Sorry for all the questions and the long post any help would be appreciated!

I would get a cooler and a computer fan and with the flexxwatt and thermostat you already have you are in business. Very easy to make. You can get a computer fan in Radio shack and find a cooler that works for you space.

Sweet thanks Raul. I'll give that a shot. I'm psyched the two little loverbirds are in with each other now and showing interest! Keep your fingers crossed for me guys! I'll try and get some pics if I see any locks.

    Re: Incubator question.

Well, still no confirmed locks so I'm gonna pull the pastel out for a couple days and we'll try again if another front comes through. I'm still hoping maybe he got the job done at night or something lol.

    Re: Incubator question.

dont get discouraged, I've only had 2 locks so far and I've been introducing them for about 3 weeks.

as for an incubator, you could always do what I did. I put an ad on CL, looking for a free broken mini fridge.

check this post out. it's very helpful

Nahhh I know it's like anything else with snakes you gotta have some patience lol. I'm thinking take them out and I'll give them each a small meal tomorrow then we'll see this weekend if they want to get busy lol. And thanks for the link! I looked at that because I do have an old mini-fridge that we're not using for anything but I don't have anyplace to put something like that right now and I definitely won't when I go back to school next year.
