    Feeeeeed Meee

    Hey guys,

I am having a little trouble finding suitable food sources for my new 3 month old Pastel.
Can anyone advise me on what size Rats/Mice you think I should be feeding my little fella. I tried looking for small rats but the things I eneded up with were all too big (in my opinion) - Plus he didn't even try to eat the smallest one I found, possibly due to it's size.
Do any of you know where I can find smaller food in the Atlanta area? All I can seem to find is too large for the little fella.

    Thanks in Advance-
    Mr. Greene

You want to feed a prey item that is about the size by not any larger then the girth of your snake. What does your snake weigh? For a 3 month old I'd be feeding it a rat pup or a just weaned one.

Do you have to feed him rats? If you don't have to you could also try hoppers or a small adult mouse and see how that goes over...if you think hoppers are too small for the pastel you could always try two hoppers to suppliment.

If you can get a weight on your 3 month old that might also help give you a decent guess on appropriate prey size. If you are having trouble locating a supplier for prey try sending a PM to rabernet (one of our site Admins). She's in your general area and will likely know where to direct you to.

Animal Atlanta in Marietta sells live feeder mice and rats. He won't have appropriately sized rats for a 3 month old, but he has plenty of mice.

They're located on Roswell Rd (120) in Marietta next to the Kroger.

Thanks for the info guys. I got some arctic mice from Petsmart in the mean time, I tried offering him one last night, this time he played with the mouse for a while but ultimately decided to skip this meal.
I'll give him a few more days to get the hunger back then try again. I'll make a trip out to Marietta and check out the feeders soon.
Also next time I post I'll have a length and weight I promise

Try not to offer him food to frequently between failed attempts. It can actually stress out a snake further if he's not interested. If it were me I would wait at least 5 days before you attempted again.
