    Hygrometer/Thermometer placement?

    I have this item:

Where is the best spot in the tank to put this? I'm using it to measure ambient temps and the humidity of the tank.

I thought I read somewhere that it's best to put it centered, about an inch above the substrate.

If you're not using this to measure your hot spot then the center placement like you had thought will be best. The logic being you want to measure the conditions close to where your snake spends most of its time.

No, I have something to measure temperatures for the two hides other than this.

    Thanks!

Hey, how is that Thermometer/Hydrometer working out? I was going to get one the other day but decided to probably get some beers instead

I need to get another digital thermometer, because I dont trust the analogue ones I got. So how is this one?

Meh I just got one from walmart for all of 5$, but nothing beats an actual thermostat since that will keep it at the temperatures you want.

And if you have something testing the temps of the hides you shouldn't need another thermometer. However center is probably the best for it. And an inch above the substrate will give you the temperature the snake is experiencing the most. While if you put it up higher you will be getting the temperature of the air in the tank. So it's really up to you. Find out the temperature of the air the snake is exposed to, or the temperature that the snake is getting from bellow it.

I wouldn't rely solely on the thermostat to inform you of the temp. You want to be able to check it against a digital probe thermometer or IR thermometer to detect any malfunctions with the thermostat or UTH.

I agree with the IR thermometer.
I'm a fanatic about the temps.
I have 2 digital thermometers/hygrometers (one in each side), plus I bury those crappy dial ones that came with the tank into the substate and I have one of these:

    It's gives accurate, fast readings...for $20

It's working great. I'm using this device SOLELY as the ambient temperature gauge. I have separate means of measuring hide temps.
