    Boa cage question

Does is matter what size cage you get for a boa when it's an 07' or 08'?

Everyone says to get a 4'x2'x12" cage but does that apply still if I get an 08' or 07'?

    Re: Boa cage question

Ask 10 boa keepers and get 12 different answers!!!!

My thoughts on what has worked well for me: I have 3 boas. One little '08, a yearling and a year and half- all females. All are currently in RBI 3x2x1 cages heated with RHP's. When I got the wee little one, I put her into this cage and she was fine (I had a tub at the ready- just in case!)

I will be purchasing big cages for these girls since the older two are outgrowing their cages. I'll purchase either a 6x2x4 or a 4x2x6; my girls do enjoy climbing!

Remember: There are more ways than one way to keep these snakes! That is my disclaimer!!!

HAHA that is true about different answers from everyone. I have been doing research on what type of cage I get whether it's animal plastics, boaphile, and reptile basics and everyone has their favorites and everyone says different things about the same cage.

    Thanks for your response.

    Re: Boa cage question

I keep my little ones in a 32qt rack system, the bigger ones get 4' and 6' cages from boamaster. I have some boaphile cages also and they are very nice but I like how much head room I have in the boamasters and I like the look a little bit more.

I will say the boamaster cages weigh alot and I had to put industrial strength casters on them where the plastic cages weigh nothing and can be moved very easily.

    Re: Boa cage question

Corey is right, Boamaster makes some nice cages. They are perfect for a nice looking display setup, but not so perfect when you need 18 or more of them! lol. When it comes to plastic caging, it's all preference. I prefer the long one door drop down fronts that the Boaphiles have. I don't like the sliding doors and I am not a fan of 2 doors with 2 sets of hinges. Some would disagree with me and say the alternative. Either is fine.

Babies- All my 08's are kept in 6qt tub racks. When they start to outgrow them they are moved up to a slimmer designed 8qt tub with a hinged lid then they are moved up to a 31qt tub rack. From there the males are moved up to a cb-70 (which is a shorter but longer and wider 40qt tub rack system). The Females are moved up to a 421D.

That said, I'm jam packed here and room/space is always an issue. You could easily take a baby 08 and put him/her in a 30qt and then move them up to their permanent home from there and skip a lot of steps.

Like McKinsey said- This question will give you a boat load of alternatives. lol

LOL I ordered 8 of the boamasters at one time, good thing I had them delivered to my office because I needed the forklift just to unload them.

One thing I did notice is I will only order racks from boaphile or AP in the future, the boamaster racks look nice but man they have the tightest grip on the sterilites. I thought my boas where stuck inside for good

    Re: Boa cage question

thanks jim, I think I might just use a stand alone tub like a 32qt or so at first, then put him/her when I get one into its permanent cage when it grows out of the tub.

Yeah, I've heard that from his racks too.

You can't go wrong that way.

    Exactly, on both counts!
    .
I have one boa that is an early 08' and several that are in the 06-07' range. All of them are in 40qt like this
    .

    .
I've housed boas in these tubs for a few years before upgrading. A 4ft cage for a boa of that age is too big in my opinion.

    Re: Boa cage question

I keep my adult female boa in a 4x2x2 cage. My adult male and sub-adult female are in 41qt tubs.
