What, if anything, do you use to insulate the back and sides of your cages?

What do you guys use to insulate the back and sides of your cages? I personally, don't use anything, but with the way the economy is going i probably should to save on heating.

I know some people use foam boards. I personally used the foam insulation that they use to wrap around heating vents. Its got aluminum on one side and sticky foam on the other.

I use this for the front of my tubs that are exposed to the air.

I use foam board on 3 sides of all of my glass enclosures. You can pick it up at any craft store or Wal-Mart. It works well for me. Without it my ambient temps were fluctuating a bit more than I wanted, but since putting it on all the tanks everything is peachy

Since I choose to use black foam board - I applied it with black Gorilla Tape (it's kinda like Duct Tape, but IMO a heck of a lot stronger) Gorilla can be picked up at most hardware stores and also Wal-Mart (I think).

All my tanks are display tanks - so this method gave me the cleanest look, and everyone that visits always compliments the appearance of my tanks (even though they may be scared of what's in them...lmao).

He he he, that's actually a great point, i never throught of someone using black foam board. I've seen people use the pink and blue board and thought it looked like a 'mini-Mcdonalds.' So, out of curiocity, is gorilla tape double sided?

There are a lot of options for insulation, ranging from simple felt to foam insulation board to Reflectix. I use a bit of everything depending on the snake, the enclosure, and the location in the apartment. Most of my tanks, however, have the foam board since it keeps things the most stable. My board is blue, since it's the house foam, but black craft felt on top takes care of the looks issue.

And no, gorilla tape is not double sided, but they do sell an industrial strength double sided tape (Lowes - it's blue) that I used to adhere the UTH pads to my rack shelves. Works great.

I have found that Big Lot stores carry a product that covers the windshield of a parked car to keep out the sun and keep it from getting too hot inside. Big Lot sells them every year for just a couple of dollars. They are made of the same thing as reflectivex and work well for this purpose.

Reflectix works great for what you are trying to do. They sell it by the ft and by roll at ace hardware, for about $1.70 a ft. good luck.
