    Schneider's Skink Husbandry

So the husbandry is pretty basic, but what should I use for substrate.

I would've used calci-sand before, but now, after knowing how bad sand is, am no sure if it's a good idea.

What would you suggest with a dry climate lizard? :[

I'm going to have a staple diet of phoenix worms with occasional mealworms. If anyone else has any suggestions let me know.

    Thanks!

Hmm... for a burrower, I would look into using dry EcoEarth or something similar. And the diet idea seems sound, just try to keep a good variety going.

Glad to hear the Schneider's won your affection. They're awesome lizards!

Won't that be too humid for a dry living lizard?

    Re: Schneider's Skink Husbandry

Not if you don't spray it. To keep EcoEarth moist you have to soak it right off and then keep spraying it. It actually dries out rather quickly, especially when you add the lighting/heat that the skink requires.

If you use the brick things, just soak it to 'open' it and then spread it out on a plastic sheet or something to dry out. Once it's nice and dry you can put it in the enclosure. Any earthy substrate should work well, as long as it's not packed wet. A little moisture won't hurt, so spilled water isn't horrible.

Sorry if that sounds disjointed... I'm really tired.
