Plastic Tub vs Glass Aquarium - Temperament
Is there a difference in the temperament of a snake (BP) kept in a 20L glass aquarium vs. a Sterilite 27 QT opaque tub?
Does it matter that the snake can't see what's going on when in a tub?
A rack system would be a big space saver but it just doesn't seem right. Do the snakes care?
BTW, I've had various pythons when I was younger and want to get a few for my kids. I just want to make sure the snakes stay very friendly. Not really interested in breeding.
Thanks for the help and any suggestions.

I think there is a difference yes. I prefer a tub set for younger snakes because I feel them benefit more from them. Lots more privacy.

So you're saying that the snakes temperament would be better if kept in an opaque tub? I would have thought the opposite and that having the snake see all of the activity would get it accustomed to the action, especially with kids.
Do others agree?
Thanks.

Re: Plastic Tub vs Glass Aquarium - Temperament
I have some that are in a rack and some that are in PVC cages with glass or plexiglas doors. The ones kept in cages can peek at me from the security of their hides when I enter the room and are more at ease with me. The ones kept in a rack always seem startled to some degree by me pulling out the tub, some more than others. That has been my experience. I don't have any glass aquariums. They would offer less privacy for the snake than a cage and would be harder to control the temperature and humidity. If you can afford a PVC cage instead of glass I would go that way although any of them will work for you.

Humidity and temp are easier to control in an open mesh cage than in an enclosed glass aquarium? In a regular room in a house or in an enclosed "snake" room?
I really want to save space and get more than one snake but if the tubs make them startle every time someone pulls the drawer out, it may not work for me. I'm better off getting one snake in a tank that will be able to be handled but many children. The whole idea is to gets the kids in to the hobby so well adjusted (tame) snakes is the primary goal.
Any other thoughts or experiences with tubs?
Thanks.

Re: Plastic Tub vs Glass Aquarium - Temperament
We've got plans on building a rack soon ourselves. Currently our 2 balls & two corns are all in glass tanks, but for the balls especially we've had a hard time w/humidity etc. Hence, the desire to build a rack. Our idea though will give us the look we enjoy of the glass tanks, but will hopefully serve the purpose of a tub rack system. Most racks are made with clearish sterilite tubs, but we're going to use polycarbonate food bins. They're ultra clear, almost like glass, so our snakes will still be able to be curious like they're prone to do and see out and check ouit what's going on around them.
