    multiple males?

hi ive just started off my first season, my temps are gradually lowering from 85-75 over the course of a month and the ambient temps through my flat are lowering too so all my temps are ambiently lower, i have two pairs of bps set up for breeding and want specific morphs so will not be mixing them up, i have a pair of pastels and a albino x spider pair, my question is:

i have a lesser platt that weighs 450 grams and is in very good health, i was wndering if i could put him in with my 1500gram pastel female?

also another question is: do you ever put two males on with one female? anyone with experience or answers will be greatly appreciated

    cheers

    Re: multiple males?

While many people do put multiple males with one female, I don't think that is something I would ever do. I like to keep track of the genetics of my hatchlings--yes, normals included. You can't do that if you use multiple males.

    Re: multiple males?

Well, not together at the same time, but yes.. I've run several males thru one female just to see who would "win".

You can get a mixed bag of babies if that is done, depending on the "power" of the male.

Yep, in my opinion 75 is too low. That's just me though.

    Re: multiple males?

75 would be too low for my comfort but I know people that do lower.

450 grams -- he may be ready but keep an eye out for problems -- if you don't know what they are I'm sure there is a post around here somewhere that will point out the issues with breeding smaller males.

Two males in with the same female at the same time and they will usually combat with each other -- not always but that is generally a technique people use to promote breeding in otherwise slow breeders. After some combat the winner gets to mate the girl and the loser gets to go back and sit in his tub and sulk.

As long as they're co-doms or doms you can rotate as many males through a female that you want. Makes for an interesting hatch day!

    Re: multiple males?

When I start next breeding season I am going to be pairing a single female to multiple males. The only time I wont be doing this is when recessive morphs are involved.

    Re: multiple males?

I ran as many as 4 males through a female this year. I got 5 split clutches. In EVERY clutch the morph odds/Gods were in my favor. Meaning, I got more morphs statistically than I should have. Could be a coincidence Maybe not.

I thought the Butter/Bee X YB clutch I posted last week was the topper until I cut my latest clutch. WOW!!!!!! Multiple males worked for me this year!!! I can't imagine I would not do a little of it next year.
