    Looking to grab a DSLR

So i've had it with my crappy point and shoot digital camera and am finally ready to jump into the world of DSLR. Now, I'm by no means a photographer so I don't need anything too crazy. Mainly it will be used to take pics of my kids, snakes, maybe some outdoor photography stuff like that. I've been looking at the Nikon D60, anyone out there have any feedback on it or something that would be a better bet for the same amount of money? Not looking to spend anymore than say $650ish, thanks in advance

Re: Looking to grab a DSLR

I am personally a Canon person. I have a Canon SLR Rebel and love it. The D version of mine is what I would like to have next.....and on sale fits pretty close to your price range.

All the lens are compatible between the Canon Rebels too.....so you can score at pawn shops and such.

    Just my 2 pennies

If your looking for a cheaper super nice camera look for a Sony cyber shot h50. Some people call them mini dslr's. I have one and it works great.

I've never used a Nikon so can't compare but have used Canons for years and years and I love them. Started with a film Rebel, went to an Elan 7e (the BEST!) and then took the digital plunge with the Rebel XT and couldn't be happier with it.

sony cybershot H10 puts my friends DSLR's to shame.

Now keep in mind my friends are not profesional photographers. If they were, I am sure they would be able to take me out in a heart beet with a DSLR.... but since I am not a professional photographer, and neither are they... the Sony H10 is the clear winner. AND it can be had for $200.

TAKE A LOOK FOR YOURSELF. here is the litteraly the first picture ever that I took with this camera.... and TRUST me, I have no skills.

Re: Looking to grab a DSLR

Personally, having played with the Nikons and Owning a Rebel XT. Id get the canon. Though both have different features, and different settings that you might need to really explore before you go all out and purchase.

there are some settings the Nikon has that the Canon SHOULD have. There are some that the Canon has the Nikon dosnt that you WISH it did!

Either way, if you arent advanced at taking pics now, either is a good buy for the money. Look on ebay. ( be sure to check the seller's ratings)

Taken with my Rebel. Played a little in photoshop, but not too much other than cropping and a quick sharpening. * Which all images can use* once i get my hands on a nice Macro lens, the shots i take will be far more impressive.
