    Earliest to be ready

    Hey

I am a little obsessed with bp as is prolly everyone else on this forum and i must say im a little anxious to start breeding.

My question is when would be the earliest i could try breeding my two snakes i have one august 07 female and one august 08 male the female is 850 grams and the male is around 250 grams. If both are eating well and putting on some good steady weight do you think they'll be ready for around January. I know the preffered time is right now but you can breed at any time of the year right so i was just wondering when you guys think ill be able to breed them

    Thanks for the opinions
    Philippe

The female should be 1200-1500 grams before you try breeding. The male should be producing sperm plugs, which for some is as early as 400 grams.
You can breed later in the year, as long as you're controlling their environment.

So basically as soon as my female hits 1200 grams and the male produces sperm plugs at around 400 grams i can start breeding with no worries as to the safety of my snakes?

I wouldn't rush them. They are going to breed for you for 20+ seasons....let them grow at a steady pace, it'll be better for them and you at the end!

I think that with a combination of researching on this site and maybe either checking out "Pythons of the World: Volume II - Ball Pythons" By Dave and Tracy Barker or "The Complete Ball Python" by Kevin McCurley you'll get a really good grasp on everything that involved in breeding ball pythons so that you'll know how to go about pairing your animals in a way that will be safe and successful.

Breeding any animal isn't a one question one answer type of thing ... it takes a lot of research and preparation.

    Good luck!
