    Streakfree Glass

I have a 30L glass cage with a screen top. I cover 3/4 of it with plastic wrap to help mantain humidity levels. Every once in awhile I have to mist to keep levels up. I spray warm tap water on moss in the rear corners of the cage, to help hold for longer periods of time. I may even spray the back glass at times.

My question is, What is best to spot clean the glass once the mist dries?

I use Baby wipes for now, but it often leaves nasty streaks

Baby wipes contain ingredients that I would not suggest allowing your snake to come in contact with.

When I clean the plexi doors of my cages I just use a water dampened paper towel

    Re: Streakfree Glass

Consider misting with distilled water. The reason you get water spots is because tap water has minerals in it that are left behind once the water evaporates. Distilled water does not have any minerals in it, so it won't leave spots. It may cost a bit more so you have to decide if it's worth it, or if you'd rather just wipe

And ditto what starmom said, baby wipes have moisturizers and scent additives and other nasty stuff, which is the residue causing the streaks. Bad news for BPs!

I agree. I'm using a used fish tank as my "snake tank" and when I initially cleaned it out, it kept leaving calcium deposit streaks on the glass which are IMPOSSIBLE to get rid of. I tried CLR, Bleach, Vinegar, everything. They went away slightly, but the white lines still remain on the walls of the tank. Is there anything at all to do about it?

    Re: Streakfree Glass

Vinegar is very good at leaving clean, streak-free glass. It will remove the mineral deposits too. If a lot of deposits are built up (as in a tank that has been used as a fish tank) it may take more than one application. Soaking it and/or using hot vinegar will help (be careful you don't get it too hot & crack the glass).

I like vinegar because it is all natural and also has disinfectant properties. I do recommend rinsing and/or allowing it to dry & air out thoroughly before you put your snake back in just because the odor is pretty strong, but as far as I've been able to determine, it is not harmful.

One possibility if you have marks on the glass that the vinegar won't remove is that the glass has become etched. I don't really know details about how or why this happens, but the smooth surface of the glass gets damaged somehow and once that happens I don't think anything short of melting the glass & remaking it will remove the dirty appearance.
