    Help ID this snake.

    I live in South Texas, and this pic was taken a few yards from the Rio Grande River. I took it while I was at work. I have no idea what it is, the only thing that pops to mind is the Indigo snake, but I've never seen one with speckles like this.

    An Indigo would be a solid color so we can rule that out.

    Yup indigos are a solid black with fairly shiny scales, and pretty rare to see in the wild too(from my experience, cuz I've never seen one).

    What you have there is a racer of some kind I think.. I lived in Houston for many years and never saw one but I know that theres at least one species of racer in the area.

    I looked up pictures of yellow bellied racers, and apparently they have a very different coloring/pattern for adults and hatchlings. That'd be my only intelligent guess at the exact species.
