why not tape?
So I was reading a thread where it said to never put tape inside a snake cage
I taped (3-2" pieces) down the probe wire in my cage since it was about 10' long.
I have since removed the tape and tried to cover the wire the best I can with the substrate
My question is why not use tape if it is stuck all the way down and is covered by substrate?

Re: why not tape?
Because snakes have a way of digging up stuff like that and if the tape ever got stuck to the animal, getting it off can be a horrible undertaking.
It's a better safe than sorry type of deal.
Hope this helps.

Re: why not tape?
Would it work to silicone the wire to the bottom of the tank?

Re: why not tape?
We used hot glue, but I think silicone would work too. Just have to let it dry for 24 hours.

That would probably be fine, it's how tanks are sealed anyway, however, you will need to let the silicon dry for a few days to allow the fumes to disperse before you use it.

I was thinking that too, maybe you just have to use a few tiny dabs of it? it really wouldn't take much to secure the probe
Also, does covering a probe in silicon or hot glue affect how it reads?

Re: why not tape?
I wasnt looking to cover the probe, I was looking to tack down the wires inside the tank
For my probe, I just put two drops of superglue on it and stuck it to the inside of the hide so I can get an idea of what is going on inside the hide

Re: why not tape?
I use velcro to hold mine down and bury it completely in substrate.
any my little stinker BP LOVES to dig it up and pull the velcro up just about every night. If it had been tape holding it down I'd have a real problem on my hands.
Sometimes at night I come down and he's curled around the probe wire and has it sticking straight up in the air. He's such a Brat

Re: why not tape?
I use low adhesive blue tape for many years now. If it were ever to get on a snake it would come off quite easily with any harm.
I use it to adhere the accurite probe to the bottom of the tub over where my UTH is. Once it's been stuck a surface it really wont stick to anything much again.
