    Dreaming?

I just got a neonate gtp last weekend, and have noticed this twice. I don't know whether to think its cute or to worry.

While (s)he seems to be sleeping, the last half-inch to inch of the tail does a goofy little dance, in a motion almost like a ribbon in the wind. It appears for some reason to be the result of dreaming, as it starts up and slows down randomly, like the motion you'd see with any animal in it's sleep. But I was under the impression that snakes don't really have the mental capacity to do much dreaming. My BP and RTB don't move in their sleep...so this one has me stumped.

Oh, and while I have a topic open...(s)he has a black tail-tip, and I've gotten the impression reading online that that's a good thing for when his/her color changes, but couldn't find out why. Does this really mean anything for it's future color?

This is known as caudal luring and it is very common in Viridis, it is done to attract prey. So I could say I don't think your snake is sleeping.

Yes as Chuck stated. Caudal Luring imitates a worm, that in the wild would attract birds, in turn bringing the food to IT!

    Re: Dreaming?

The animal is not sleeping when doing this. It is patiently waiting for prey to come by.
As for the black tail, it can be an indicator of certain locales, but means little to nothing as to predicting the outcome of the animal's final color.
