So, uh, I found a corn...
Well, my sister did actually. She and her boyfriend were at the store and they found the little guy in the parking lot. They didn't know what he was, or what to do with him, so they logically decided that grabbing the unknown snake by the tail and putting it in a shoebox in their trunk and taking him to me was the most logical choice (lol.).
So, it's a little cornsnake. It looks fine, weight-wise, but I suspect it's a recent escapee, since it has a number of recent injuries, but no old scars. No kinking, no bleeding or signs of infection, no raspy breathing, no oozing wounds, no scale rot. Except for being thoroughly freaked out and those burns/cuts/whatever, he looks fine. And he's pretty! I also suspect he's an escapee because he let my sister's boyfriend walk over and pick him up, and he hasn't tried biting or flailing around, no hissing or peeing, either. He's really calm about being handled, and let me touch his head to get a better look at the injury on it.
At the moment, I have him set up in a spare 10 gal tank I had laying around, on white paper towels (though I didn't see mites). He's got a water bowl, UTH, some crumpled up paper towels to hide under--I was just making sure that's alright for him. I plan on finding him a new home, since my mom doesn't want me to keep him (lol, she's unhappy enough about the ones I've already got, and the fact that I intend to breed) and because I've never owned a corn before and don't know that much about them.
Lol, I thought he was REALLY skinny until I showed a friend of mine who owns 5-6 corns a picture of him, and she told me he was perfect in weight.
But at the moment I don't know where to take him--not to a pet store, obviously--and I don't want to list on craigslist, since I don't trust it. My friend knows a girl who might want him, but they live like 6 hours from me. So--can I get some tips on caring for him until I find him a home? I know the 10gal is too small, but it's only a temporary thing. And, if you want an unsexed corn of questionable age and origin, with a few little cuts and possibly burns and a few missing scales, who's pretty good about being picked up, and live in the Northeast Florida area, I'm your go-to girl! I haven't tried probing for several reasons; besides not wanting to stress him further, I don't know how deep corns probe. XD And he's just so tiny! I'll attach pics. I have NO idea what morph he is, but he's really pretty.
This first picture is one I snapped really quick before cleaning out the 10gal and prepping it for him. I had put him in that box just to keep him from escaping for the time being.

This one is a good show of his size.

Here's his head. It looks as though the scales on that left side were scraped off or something--perhaps when he was escaping? I'm really not sure.

XDD sorry, I went picture crazy. I love his belly pattern--it's like a checkerboard pattern!! Anyways. If you know what morph he is, or if you have any advice, please tell me. I'm off to check out cornsnake caresheets.

Re: So, uh, I found a corn...
I can't see the pictures because I'm at work and my work has some weird security settings but I was just wondering, is it possible for you to post ads or somehow try to find the owners if it is an escapee?
also, again, i couldn't see the pics so couldn't see his size but a toilet paper or paper towel roll is always a good cheap hide for little cornsnakes...

Re: So, uh, I found a corn...
It is a wild type/ normal corn, and chances are it is not an escapee. Out of 5 wild corns I have rescued, only one of those reacted negatively. Two were even adults. You would have thought they had been long term captives. Just walked up to them and picked them up. I still have three of them. They ate f/t thawed from day one and have never bitten (well two of them that is, the third was the biter).

Wild corn snake. They are native down there. If you dont want him I will pay for shipping to get him. I love wild types.
Nice one you have there too.

I think he's lovely, too. And I didn't realize they were handleable when wild--my friend told me the wild ones would bite!
Richard: I'd ship him to you, but I'm not Fedex certified to ship reptiles, and don't have any shipping boxes. I'm sorry.

Re: So, uh, I found a corn...
Some will, some won't. In my experience, they are pretty calm, even in the wild. The adult female I have is now one of my "kid education" snakes, and I have only had her a little over a year. She was puppy dog tame from day one which surprised me, since the landowners had "caught her in a bucket" when they asked me to come remove her. Expected her to be a little ticked when I opened the bucket. She just kinda looked at me like "can I get out of here now?". So I picked her up and talked to the people about what she was and how she was harmless. They touched her and stuff and then I brought her home. She was a sweetheart the whole time, and still is.

You know I just thought of something. If your sister found it in a parking lot, it could very easily been up in someones car, and those might be burn marks from the ride.

Re: So, uh, I found a corn...
Wow, that's amazing! That's pretty much how this one acted. They put it in a shoebox, and when i got there it was halfway out (put a snake in a shoebox with a hole twice the size of the snake's girth in it, and expect it to just stay...lol) and it just looked at me like "o_o Hi. I'm not doin' nothin." and let me pick it up.
Yeah, I figured the burns were probably from being in a car. I didn't see any grease on it, but then it might not necessarily have grease on it.

Re: So, uh, I found a corn...
It's a really nice looking wild type corn like everyone else said. Corns are great, they're so easy to keep and are almost always the sweetest tempered snakes.
Since it is a native species you could always nurse him/her back to health, let those wounds heal up a little bit and then release him into a nice conservation area where he won't wind up in the same trouble again. Just an idea
