    spider neck problems?????

okay, so i have a male pastel, and i was thinking about getting a female spider soon so i could raise them and breed them to make bees, well, my deal is, i've heard that a lot if not most spiders have a neck problem or something, im not so sure i would want a snake with neck problems, being all floppy and stuff, so my question is, is it true, all are spiders like this? If you were me, what would you breed my pastel to?

    Re: spider neck problems?????

what your reffering to in spiders is called

    Head Wobbles or Wobbles .

there are spiders on the market that dont have these issues but in a sad case most of the spiders do tend to show .
it really doesnt affect anyhting as far as breeding or health wise , least not from what i researched , but it makes them act a little awkward when trying to hold their head up ..
most of the spiders i have seen with wobbles arent really all floppy so to say but they have trouble keeping their head straight ..

in everything i have read about it its not a leathal issue nor is it passable to other snakes . but it can be genetically passed to their babies and yet again it could skip over their babies ..

Not all spiders have Head Wobbles best thing to do is just search around different breeders and ask questions if they show signs of having it there are quite a few that have no trace of the problem .. little shopping around and im sure you can find one easily .
I love it when people tell me, "You should think before you speak!" I'm like, "I did. It's what I think and I really don't give a crap what other people think."

thanks man, thats exactly what i needed to know, my main worry is passing it on geneticly, i dont want that, but also it seems like it would suck to have trouble holding your head up you know, i dont want my snakes to have to struggle at all, even if it isnt really hurting them.

    Re: spider neck problems?????

I have a spider and he doesn't have a wobble most of the time only when he gets excited about food just before he strikes, but I would not describe it as a wobble, more like an equalibrium issue little off balance. I have looked at a lot of spiders in person and I have seen many that don't appear to have anything abnormal about them and I have seen some that are just plain crazy looking with all the " odd spider wobble ", and I have seen plenty inbetween. Mine for the most part appears quite normal most of the time, but you can definately tell there is something different about him. He kicks his head to the side and looks like he is really thinking about something some times. I think it adds to his personality. I think that is what really makes me like him is that he is noticbly different from your normals in more ways that just color and pattern. It has never affected his health or eating habits. Eats like a champ and growing like a weed.
Going to give me some nice bees in the next year or so I hope.

well just keep in mind , it has no real basis effect on them its more just being off balance .
it wont affect their eating , breeding , or growing . its not going to hurt them .

dont let Head wobbles deture your wanting to buy 1 cause they still make excellent breeders and not all parents carry or pass it on to their babies ..

the one female i have i found and she doesnt show any signs of having it but i wouldnt let it stop me from getting 1 ..

im sure the very first spider found had the Head wobbles and it was bred which is why we have spiders now so its something that cannot be helped and no research has shown yet that it in fact makes them suffer in any way ..
its just having a snake thats a little off balanced .

just like the whole world is ... LOL

heres a reason why you shouldnt let a thing like Wobbles scare you away from owning a beautiful snake like the spider

turned her to show how nice her sides and belly are

    Re: spider neck problems?????

I have a male spider possible het ghost that does wobble and a female spider that does not. Both eat great, the male started breeding last year til I pulled him out. I'd like to say it doesn't bother me, but I do feel concerned for the snake when I see him doing it excessively.

thats exactly how i feel, but im still going to get one, im just going to have to search for one without "wobbles"

    Re: spider neck problems?????

Actually, it's pretty much accepted that all spiders have it to a certain extent -- some are just more noticeable than others. The girl that I have isn't noticeable at all. Most people believe that it is linked to the spider gene itself, not so much something seperate that is passed on genetically. Some spiders have it, and some don't. Spiders that wobble will produce offspring that don't wobble and vice-versa.
