    new here... funny ball

Just brought my first snake home.. a young male ball from pETsMART. VERY active from what he was at the store.... as in all over the tank active. He's in a 20L with a under tank heater on one side and a 75 heating lamp on the other.... the humity is @ 65% (via analog gauges... yes I know but I just read the post about how inaccurate they are.. fixing this problem tomorrow)

Temp is a little low on one side.. around 75%. and around 87% on the other side (substrate is warm to the touch...)

I guess my concern and or question is, why isnt he just settling down? he is literally all over the tank.. NOT hiding just looking for a way out. Should I accomodate this little guy somehow so he feels more comfortable?? thanks experts of the herps

Welcome! Read the care sheet for this site, it will help you out alot on what the little fella needs. Leave him alone for a week untill he gets settled...he is restless because he was moved around and into a new home. good luck!

you'll probably get a understanding of most of the people here's view on petsmart in some other threads.

Yup, the caresheet is great, and make sure you're ready to take it to the vet if any problems rise. This is a knowledgeable community, a lot of info to be soaked from the posts.

Congrats on yer new one!! I'm sure you will ove him and he is in good hands.. it's not the value/quality of the snake from petsmart that sets people off, so please don't take this as me beating you up on your snake.. no no noI'm not doing that at all.. . the snake is probably just fine it's the Idiots at petsmart who know nothing about their jobs the ruffle the feathers of people ya know.. ( no offense to anyone here that works for Pet Smart)

Yep, I went to my local pet smart to get a BP.. The person there with the "Reptile Specialist" tag
    knew nothing about the snakes
E.G. when they ate last, temperment, were they handled, what are they feeding on,when did they shed last..

These are just BASIC questions... and they had NO CLUE..Even the manager knew nothing!!! The person on duty asked me to get the snake out because he was afraid of snakes....

Either way the snakes looked ok but due to the fact that they knew nothing about them i decided to go to a mom and pop pet shop where the guy breeds his own snakes and he told me eveything possible about the snake I chose.. I left feeling comforted and assured of a healthy pet.

Make sure to provide a thermal gradient. 85-88 hot side ( some will say 90) and 75-80 on the cool side.

I got my first ball python, Asus from Petco. Shes my best feeder, and is breeding for me * crossing my fingers* this year.

Good luck with your new snake!
