    Help, please!

We were feeding our cornsnakes tonight and noticed what seems to be an eye infection on our female hypo lavender.
There seems to be fluid around the eye and into her head a little and the eye is bulging out.
I know we should take her to a vet but right now we can't afford to due to major car repairs.
Is there anything we can do to help her or should she just be left alone?
I also don't know if this makes any difference or not, but she shed this last week.
    Thank you for any help!!!!

    Re: Help, please!

That sounds like a retained eye-cap from her shed. If you still have her shed, check it to see if both eye caps are on there. If the eye-caps stay on, the eye can become irritated or infected. Does it by any chance look milky around any part of the eye? If the eye cap is still on there, you can soak her in lukewarm water in a plastic tub with a rag in it for 15 minutes, then use a warm washcloth to try to get it off her eye. You can let her face and body slide through the rag or try to gently rub it off with the warm rag after her soak.
If it's not the eyecap, it's probably an infection and it could be infected already, which would require antibiotics. Hopefully this helps.

It's impossible to know without pics, but this sounds worse than a stuck eyecap. I'd see a vet as soon as possible. Good luck.

    Re: Help, please!

The infection (whether it be caused by a stuck eye cap or not) will need antibiotics no matter what you do, but since you are waiting to get money for the vet, you can check out whether it's the eyecap or not. Regardless, you need to get that eye cap off first before treating the infection IF it is the eye cap causing it and since you won't be able to bring it to the vet now, you might as well see if that's the possible problem.
