    Scarlet King Escaped

My new scarlet kingsnake escaped. I don't know what to do. She got out sometime last night because I saw her right before I went to bed. She's definitely not in the tank because there's not much in there. I've torn the room apart, she's nowhere. If it was any other snake I wouldn't be worried, but it took me FOREVER to get her and she's so, so small, she could literally be anywhere.

How small is your escapee? In most cases colubribs will hide underneath dressers, TV stands or something of that structure, but then again you never really know.

In my experience the best and most effective method I found was to place a line of flour over every threshold in your house, as soon as he crawls into a room, you will know and it will take maybe 5 mins to find him then.

She is very small, maybe 17-20 inches long. About as thick as a large pencil, or small marker, like a sharpie or something. I will try the flour thing tonight.

Ceiling. This room is full of bookshelves and cabinets and stuff. I've spent most of the day going through everything but I don't know if she climbed up high, or if she stayed low to the ground, or moved to the living room or kitchen, or where. It freaks me out because she is so small she could be inside a sock or a shoe or anything. I don't know if I'll ever find her.

    Re: Scarlet King Escaped

Good luck, my Scarlet King escaped mid June, and I still haven't found her. Same scenerio as yours, I KNOW I noticed her missing within hours of her escape. Unfortunately, she was small enough to squeeze under a door, so I fear she made her way outside or down a shower drain.... Hope you have better luck than me.

Ah, ok. Yeah the flour method should work, my honduran milksnake use to love escaping on me at that size, everytime he would do it, I would be scratching my head wondering how. Finally though I got him a new enclosure about a year ago that was and is escape proof.
Anyways, bookselves and cabinets could most likely be a hot spot for him to hide. If of course you havent checked.

Yeah I know how she got out and I'm kicking myself because for a couple of weeks now I've been looking at it and saying, you know, she might be able to get out, I need to move her to one of the other tanks. And sure enough...

A lesson to anyone else, if you think they might be able to get out, don't hesitate, you might be too late.

    FOUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife just called. My 4 year old son saw her crawling out from behind a baseboard across the living room. My wife (who is deathly afraid of snakes) ran over, grabbed her and put her in a sterilite. She got bit in the process as well. I can't believe it because normally she won't even touch a snake.

I am about as happy as can be right now, can't wait to get home from work!

    Updates pics will follow.

Cool stuff! They're such resourceful little critters, you never know where they're going to pop up. I still haven't given up hope that my little corn that escaped last month will pop up somewhere in the house. I just hope it's not around my dad because he is deathly afraid of snakes (freaking 6'2" 250lbs of pure scaredy cat when he's sees a snake lol).
