Bit of bad and sad, bit of good.
Well, I've had to do some rearranging of my corn collection. Pixie, my (expensive) Hypo Bloodred female that was the slow grower, suddenly turned into the Witch of the West.
Before she was calm, if a little nervous, when held. Then about a month ago she turned mean: Striking everything as soon as her tub was opened, spraying all over the place, thrashing so much I could hardly hold her, and biting me (or anything else she could reach) about every second. I tried everything I knew to settle her - not putting her back until she settled a bit (never did), moving slowly to not scare her (didn't matter, she'd start as soon as the lid lifted), leaving her alone for a week... nothing worked.
Since my snakes are pets before breeders, I just couldn't have a snake that acted like that in the house. I contacted a corn breeding friend of mine and set up a trade. I hated having to give up (for now) on my dream morph - Ghost Bloods, but that was just too much.
Now, the good news: My new snake is a pretty, sweet, and larger female CandyCane. She's about 1.5 years old, weighed in today at 94g (a bit thin, but I can fix that), and is currently in shed so her colors are really dulled, she's really a clean white and bright red:

So, whadda ya think? I need a good name for her...something mythological.

Sorry to hear about your Hypo Bloodred gal. It's never an easy decision to make. But it does look like you got a very nice snake from the trade. I'm guessing your breeder friend doesn't mind a feisty snake? Good luck with the new girl. Any plans for her in the future with breeding? Not sure what you would pair her with as I don't know what all you have. lol

She probably would have grown out of it. I have a few snakes that were unassuming and calm when they were little, then once they hit 30g or so got possessed by some evil snake demons. Then magically got puppy dog tame several months down the road; and have stayed that way. Corns can be weird like that.
But all that matters is that you got something that you like and are happy with it. I want to see some pics when she's all shed!

Re: Bit of bad and sad, bit of good.
Isn't this the second corn you've traded because it wasn't tame enough? Or was that someone else? That's pretty unusual for corns, isn't it?
But, as Matthew said, the important part is that you are happy with what you got. Candy canes are neat. Please remember to post pics once she sheds!
