What size mice do I need for my hatchlings
I currently have 4 eggs in my incubator which are due to hatch in a couple of weeks, what size mice do I need to feed them once they have hatched.
I currently have plenty of breeding mice but at the moment I only freeze either pinkies or adults for my other snakes. I know pinkies will be a bit too small so once I know I can get a small cupply ready for them as well.

Unless it's an unusually small hatchling I start mine out on either rat pups or small adult mice. For the smaller ones I use a wean or hoppers depending on whats on hand -- but in my experience hatchlings feed better on the slightly larger prey. As mentioned unless you want mousers start or switch them to rats as soon as possible.

Re: What size mice do I need for my hatchlings
Havent got any rats at the moment but I have about 20 2 week old mice in my mouse room so I might get some of them Co2 and in the freezer then I wont have as many to wean of in a week or so.
It seems weird getting them for the snakes so far only used to feeding corn hatchlings looking forward to seeing just how big the python hatchlings are going to be.

Really.. I have females who are 2500g+ who eat only mice. They gain their weight back fine after laying and get even bigger than they were. 3-4 mice every 7-10 days and they do great.
All of my babies are started on live hopper/small adult mice.

I really think its what the snake likes .I have a mouser that use to take rats now only mice go figure at least shes eating them thats what matters to me. Got a mojo & pastel males 08's & they are taken weaned ASF's because I have a ton of them,so I will see if I can turn them on to rats when they are big enough.

Re: What size mice do I need for my hatchlings
I start hatchlings on rat fuzzies or small mice. The rat eaters get 2-3 meals of fuzzies, then I move right up to pups/chubs.
I haven't experienced any mousers taking longer to grow up than rat eaters here. I only had one female that wouldn't eat rats so I fed her strictly mice for over a year. She is currently my largest and heaviest '06 female. Now she'll eat anything, so she usually gets a small rat followed by a mouse. You just have to feed enough mice to equal the weight of an appropriately sized rat.
I also had a bunch of snakes stop eating rats and only eat mice when I started breeding mice in my snake room. It must have been the scent in the room. I now feed about half and half, and my mousers are growing like weeds. I feed them one mouse at a time until they've had 2-4 each, depending on the snake's size, or until they don't eat it within a few minutes. Most of the time it's the former.

Ok I better get freezing then I have various sizes at the moment some just weaned, and some about 2 weeks I will freeze some different sizes then keep the rest for my adults.
