I was checking my 1st clutch of new hatchlings this evening and noticed something odd.
One of them is exibiting an odd tounge flicking behavior I have not experienced before and as this is my 1st time working with hatchlings I would appreciate some advice.
Only one of 8 hatchlings is doing this, typically it's one of the two albinos. It's leaving the last 2mm or so of it's tounge hanging out of it's mouth,it will flick it's tounge and return it fully to it's mouth but after 3 or 4 normal flicks where the tounge is fully retracted it leaves a little hanging out again.
It will retract it's tounge fully and it's jaw line closes neatly so I'm reasonably sure it has nothing in it's mouth.(incubating medium)
Temperature & humidity are fine it has fresh water and I haven't noticed anything else odd about it,it's no heavier or lighter than the others.
The forks of the tounge are resting on each other together from saliva but they separate when the tounge is flicked.
It hatched on 2/9/8 and hasn't had it's 1st shed yet so hasn't been fed .
Any comments,experiences greatly appreciated.
Appologies if I am panicing for no need,I'm sure you all remember how nervous you were with your 1st cluches![]()
