Was wondering what you thought of this caging setup
Ok, i don't have any pictures, but i'll try and get some up soon.
It'll be pretty easy to explain if the people at petco or petsmart got all their knowlege from you.
Ok, i recently have aquired/purchased some new vision tanks. They are NICE! Basically, petco started to downsize their animals. They had a bunch of the tanks from their drawer-like reptile rack system. The General Manager sold a few to me that he had for a few months. Basically, it's the glass part without the drawer. Alumimum frame, tempered glass, screen top with magnetic doors. You can adjust to allow up to three different sections.
Now, they are not very deep, but much wider than a 10g tank. Anyone who has looked at snakes at Petco will know what i am talking about (hopefully).
Anyway, i wanted to take one of them and use all three sections for individual heterodon n. nasicus. (i have three)
Take another and seperate it into two sections, one large and one small for my heterodon n. kernnerlyi. (also have three but two are for breeding)
And one with one large and one small section for my bearded dragon (she is handicaped with no back legs so a short tank is ok for her) and the small section for a segregation tank once my female lays (or after she eats :-D).
Anyway, i also got one of the rodent racks. Pretty tall, but not much floor room. For me, it does no good as a rat rack, because they get no excercise (yes, i have pet rats). It is sectioned into two areas, of equal size. I wanted to use one side for a pair of ball pythons and the other for a small red tail. I figured this might be good because the pythons love to climb and they get all the room they want to climb. My RT is semi-aboreal so it cant hurt much. All of them are under a year old.
Anyway, my question is... does that sound like a good idea or that i'm just wasting some time or should offer more space? Secondly, do you think something the size of the rat rack would work for semi or full-aboreal?
The one thing i find awesome about these cages is the aluminum on the bottom and they have a plastic courrogated (however it's spelled) bottom. My setup now is flexwatt taped with aluminum tape to a black wire shelf system with aquaria tanks lying on top. The aquaria tanks hang over the front and the back a little but nothing bad. The new tanks stick off the end an inch, or so, but heat up perfectly! I taped up the back vent with aluminum tape on the inside and outside, i found that it seems to actually draw hot air into the space between the tape and keeps it nice and warm, anywhere from freezing to about 95 with the flex. (i could only get up to 85 with the aquariums).
So, i wanted to give it a shot, but i wanted to see if it's be worth it to do so. I'd rather ask the experts than rely on my 'gut,' any advice suggestions?
Also, if anyone has a truck and wants to help me get the drawers lemmy know! :-D
