repti stat II substitute
I bought a repti-stat II for my 40 gal tank. Since then I have adopted 2 more bps in smaller seperate tanks.
Whats an option then spending the $230 for another repti-stat II?
I am using lamps in the meantime and ready to retire them soon.
Thanks

If you're looking for a temporary setup, you can always use a rheostat (lamp dimmer) as long as the ambient room temps are stable. I think you can get one at lowes for around 10 bucks.
Another option is the Repti-temp 500R for around 40 bucks. People despise these, but I use a couple all the time for temporary setups and as my primary thermostat in the beginning and had +/- 2 degree swings, which is not bad. You just need to set the probe in the right spot properly.
I now use a Helix proportional thermostat which stays spot on 24/7. You can pick one up for around 140 bucks.
You can look into Ranco or Johnson, which are on/off style, for around 80 bucks. With your low wattage setup, I don't see the need of a thermostat capable of 1500w though.
I think there's another one that I'm forgetting about, but I'm sure someone will chime in with what they use.
There's some ideas for you, run with it and make your decision

Re: repti stat II substitute
Thanks mustang, I guess I am forced to get a second repti-stat II...I tried the lamp dimmer & they would keep it hot enough, & the rheostat dealies kept it too hot even at its lowest dial setting.
However now that I think about it my tanks need more padding/cardboard attached to the outside of the privacy barrier I put on them.
Well thanks kid you got me thinking, at least someone answered one of my posts this year. Since noone I work with even likes snakes its such a shame I go online to find fellow ball python lovers & nobody ever comments or adds to any suggestions I may have. oh well.
You did fix my issue just by getting my wheels turning, Take care

I have both Johnson control and Ranco and both work great. Reptile Basic has them and also has the fastest shipping ever. PS. Cool video

Oh! The Herpstat. I was thinking, couldnt you plug all of the heaters into that one herpstat and get similar temps in all of them?
Maybe you could downsize that 40 to match the smaller tanks (I'm guessing 20gal). From what I understand, a 20 is all they need and easier to keep temps and humidity right.
Or get a rack...much less room and everything stays spot on

The Herpstat II has two probes and outputs so you could have one controlling the 40gal, and the other output controlling the two smaller enclosures. Assuming the smaller enclosures are the same size and using the same heat source. Just a thought.
