    Info on super dwarf retics

I am thinking about getting a big species of snake but do not want one that get to be 15ft long. I was think a super dwarf retic but I can not find any info on them. How big do they get? What is the difficulty level and temperment of this snake? I own three ball pythons and was thinking of getting a bigger speices of snake but not to big.

If I remember right, they tend to top out at around 6-7 feet. Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot of them out there just yet so you'll be looking at a pretty big price tag most likely.

Get a BCI a male BCI they will stay small enough to handle but not ball python size.

Unless you have a house you can borrow against, Super dwarfs are probably out. And from what I have heard....and I live near the man who breeds these.....they still get rather large, just not normal HUGE....LOL

Re: Info on super dwarf retics

I was looking into this as well and couldn't really find the info I needed. Most of the articles I found said that super dwarfs are really just small retics selectivly bred to stay smaller and that some people have bought them only to have one end up getting 15 feet or so. As to weather or not this is true I can't say as it wasn't my experience. I'm still trying to find the info as I'm very interested in getting one of these as well one day.

What is a BCI? I live close to Constrictors Unlimited but I checked their site and they do not have any for sale. I am still looking at other species but I really want a beginners large snake species without a huge price tag and does not need a 6ft long pen to live in. Burmese are just to big for my taste and red tailed boas I heard are the same.

True super dwarfs are rare and cost quite a bit. I had a buddy who had some and just had a clutch hatch. His female was about 7 feet. He has since sold the project.

Go for an olive python or one of the larger carpets. Macklott's pythons are nice, too, and only get about 7-9 feet. I think the Timor Island locality females get to be about 9', while the Roti Island locality stay a bit smaller. I could have that reversed, though, but they are cool snakes.

Re: Info on super dwarf retics

I saw a bit of incorrect info by a few posters.

The dwarf retics are retics that are bred for size, and still will reach 15 feet and upwards fairly easily (although they may not get 22+ like non-dwarves )

The SUPER dwarf retics are from an island in indonesia and they rarely get over 8 or 9 feet.

I was interested in them a while ago and saw a web site that claimed to have them for $800 or so but I am not sure I would trust that it was a true super dwarf at that price.
