Need advice on getting a snake
Hey all,
So I am freeing up a large enclosure soon(transfering a bp to a rack system) and I am looking to get a python that is good for display. It is about 4.5 feet long x 18 in deep x 36 in tall with locking front doors, belly heat and CHE. I can keep the husbandry any way that would be necessary. I am just looking for a good snake to display. I prefer pythons but would consider a boa. I am fond of White Lip Pythons and Olive pythons though I am not sure if they are too into being out and about during the day and what have you.. I want something big-ish, though no longer than 10-12 feet, though I don't want any thing smaller than a BP. All suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance.

Re: Need advice on getting a snake
Hi,
How about a red tailed green rat snake?
The ones I met were a tad nippy but had colours that blew me away - it was hard to beleive they werent made by special effects designers.
There are some more photo's on this page.
Though it has to be said I couldn't find any pictures that did the ones I met justice in regards to tail colour.
They supposedly get around 8 foot or so and are quite mobile and visible in the enclosure.

Sounds like a cool snake. Let me add on more detail. it would be in a semi traffic area. so It would have to not be super easily stressed. any other ideas. at all.

Re: Need advice on getting a snake
That´s about the size (and heating) of my Jungle Carpet Python (Morelia spilota cheynei) display. Here it is:

It´s a very good display snake, not stressed with my living-room (low) traffic. A bit nippy when young but calm down as adults. 5-6´for males; up to 7-8´for females
If you want something a bit smaller also within the Morelia complex you may also opt for the West Papuan (Irian Jaya) Carpet Python (Morelia spilota harrisoni). Similar husbandry and rarely exceeds 6´, being average at 5.

You could always go with a Coastal Carpet female. They can get to be up around 10 feet. If you want a fancier look, they come in the Jaguar morph. Very cool snakes.

I would say go with a Brazilian rainbow boa, Woma Python (Woma is on my wishlist ) or even a Jaguar Carpet Python.
