Best place for tanks?
Hey everyone, I was wondering is any of you guys know a good place to get terrariums for a decent price. I know Petco is doing that dollar a gallon thing (but only until tomorrrow!), but is there another good resource I'm missing? Can you get tanks for around that price at expos? I'm going to my first expo (Repticon) in November, so if so then I'll wait till then.

Re: Best place for tanks?
You can often pick up used glass tanks at yard sales or through craigslist or that type of thing. Sometimes larger fish specialty stores will sell off used glass tanks at very reasonable prices because of some small defect that makes them unable to hold the pressure of water but is fine for reptile use.
Heck I just put the word out to a few people and had used tanks they had sitting in their garages and basements given to me. Just had a huge 50 gallon one dropped off yesterday in fact.

Yeah, I was thinkin the same thing Jo was. Yard sales are great places to get cheap tanks. However, the PETCO dollar a gallon thing is a good deal if you're gonna go big. Plus, if you decide later that you want to put fish in, it would have been a brand new tank already, so you shouldn't have to worry about leaks. At an expo you can find good deals on tanks, but I couldn't imagine having to cart that thing through crowds of people - geesh!

Holy crap. I want a free 50 gal tank, lol.
Well thanks guys, I guess I'll drop by Petco tomorrow. I guess I'll be skimming the yard sales in the future too
Thanks a bunch!

Re: Best place for tanks?
This one was left outside so it's filthy but heck it's free and under that dirt, in perfect condition. I'm actually not going to be keeping any reptiles in it. It's a very long high tank that isn't suitable for any snake we own so it's going to be used for our rodent breeding needs.

Try Craigslist. I've sold a lot of tanks on there.

I had a few leftovers from my tropical fish days, but found quite a few more by asking in my local Freecycle group if anyone local had some lying around. Wouldn't hurt to try.

Re: Best place for tanks?
petco's sale is pretty sucky this time... its only a dollar per gallon on their 20 or 29 gallon sizes. really disappointing.
i've picked up tanks that were sitting out on the sidewalk in front of houses. craigslist and freecycle are also pretty good for finding them for cheap.

Your best bet is craig's list, if you don't find what you need today, be persistent and something will be listed sooner or later. That's where I find a lot of my reptile stuff including snakes.
