Joined the club of lost snakes
Today I joined the club of lost snakes...
The little woman and I were chatting before she had to get ready for work and she came over to look at Salazar our Ball Python. "Ummmm Salazar isn't in there" she says with amazement.
So I proceed to pull everything out of his aquarium seeing if he found a new place to hide and I just couldn't see him... Nope he was gone. Of course I think the worse and assume he is gone forever, but I found him right where the little woman thought he would be. He was in his tanks stand curled up next to the power bar. I was so relieved!!!!! *puts bricks on top of the tank lid*
Check out some pics of him on My Blog

There is an adage about those who refuse to learn from history being doomed to repeat it.

Hi,
Just to say I wouldn't trust in the weight of a few bricks to stop them as they grow.
I watched one of mine totally destroy a metal tank hood once she had managed to get some good purchase - they really are amazingly strong.
Leveradge (sp?) is definately not your friend in these circumstances.

Re: Joined the club of lost snakes
Hi,
I would think it would depend on how many you used - the idea is not to have enough give that the snake can get a brace to exert pressure against if possible.
One at each corner on a long tank might let it lift the lid far enough to get its nose in the gap - from there I would expect a big ball python to be able to lever the gap bigger till it either broke something or got itself jammed in the gap.
But evenly spaced close enough together around the lid and it wouldn't be able to get the initial force point - er... I think.
