    wondering about mites

After reading recently about Jen and her horrible experience with the virus that wiped out her collection, I felt I needed to reevaluate for mites. I thought I was mite-free- I could see no signs of them, still can't. On Jen's site she talks about the vet finding a few on one of her deceased snakes even though she had felt confident that she had never had a mite in her collection. She mentions various ways that she had checked, including utilizing a type of tape- I want to be sure and was wondering what methods some of you use other than eye"balling"

Treat your animal for mites even thought they may not have them, and you will be sure not to have them

    Re: wondering about mites

I do it to all incoming animals immediately as well as once every six months as a precaution.

    Re: wondering about mites

I hate to say it but over the course of the whole ordeal the one thing we've learned is that Jen doesn't always tell the truth. I mean how many times did we hear about her impeccable quarantine until that was blown out of the water Within a matter of weeks she brought in a dozen animals from wherever she could find them cheap and dumped them all in the same room. Is anyone really surprised they found mites?

That being said - treat everything coming in and preventively thereafter.
