    Purple On and Off White

Ok so I keep a monthly shed picture record of my Purple Albino. Just wanted to show the difference of the snake, on and off of white. It is actually quite drastic and makes you wonder how much the background changes the photos that you see, in any given situation online.

    ON WHITE

    OFF WHITE

Remember folks, no Photoshop ctrl+U saturation was used!

The background is only going to make a difference because of the camera mode.
If you light the subject correctly and the same in both settings and set the white balance, you can get the same results.
That said, I COMPLETELY understand your point in how to perceive photo in ads. You are right on. Most people use a point and shoot on auto and the photos will vary dramatically.
Also, there is a big difference from monitor to monitor that most poeple don't realize.
    Great snake.
    (nice photos too.)

I use a Kodak V-550. It has a special feature for flowers, and thats what I use for all my shots, even far away distance shots, no joke.

Very true. We all have the same DELL LCD monitors where I work, but I color correct mine with a colorimeter, so the same thing always looks truer and better on my monitor. =)

Ditto that! excellent explanation. Your camera is in flower mode Pat, which for many cameras means a large aperture. Your white balance "should" still be in auto, and the camera is still automatically changing the aperture and f stop respectively. So yes, it would still look different with two different backgrounds and lighting.
