Probes for Herpstat 2 go where?

There is no mention in the Herpstat 2 manual on where to place these probes, just that they are temp probes....

Does one probe go under each hide?

Do I still need my accurite temp/humidity probes in there now that I have a herpstat II?

Re: Probes for Herpstat 2 go where?

From what I have read, the herpstat II is a two in one tstat, and thats why theres two probes. I imagine just one would be fine if your only using one heat source.

Re: Probes for Herpstat 2 go where?

Because then I would have 4 probes in one tank, 2 under each identical hide....so far I love how the Herpstat 2 looks, clean & sleek, hopefully I wont need my accurites anymore.

I will leave that up to this Forum, Thanks even tho it appears to be a stupid question.....

probe goes on the hottest part of the heat pad to get the best reading.

Re: Probes for Herpstat 2 go where?

We use Herpstat Pro's, which has four probes/thermostats:

1: cool hide (heated by UTH)
2: air temperature (controls a CHE)
3: water bowl (heated by UTH, which we heat to raise humidity)
4: warm hide (heated by UTH)

The green stuff is repti-carpet with holes cut in the back and right where we want the probe to go so that it doesn't move around. We have 2 carpets for each cage, one out that we can clean and one being used:
0.1 ball python (Cleo), 0.1 surinam bcc (Carmen)
1.0 sunglow motley corn (Jenson), 1.0 albino burmese (Lourdes)
1.0 cat (Nicky), some mooses and ratters, 1.0 hubby (Rick)

Re: Probes for Herpstat 2 go where?

The herpstat two has two outputs. Think of it like two seperate thermostats. One probe tells the thermostat what the temperature is where ever the probe is. So if you have it on a heating pad, it will tell your thermostat what the heat pad heat is.

The other probe is for another heat source. If you are only using one heating pad then you will only need the one probe, if you are using two heat sources, then you will need the other probe.

An example, I have a herpstat pro, which has four outputs. During breeding season, I ran a female rack system on one output, a male rack system on one output, an incubator on one output, and lighting on the last output. Each output had its own probe.

    I hope that made sense.

Re: Probes for Herpstat 2 go where?

The accurite is a thermometer and only measures temps. The herpstat is a thermostat which controls and measures temps. Depends what you are using for a heat source to answer where it should go? Are you controling a UTH? a CHE? radiant heat panel? Light bulb? Heat rope?
