    Possible shed issue?

So Marv shed for the first time (for us) yesterday. The head and body were in two separate pieces, and there was a small bit on the tail that didn't come off. I used the directions in the Bad Shed sticky and got the bit off his tail.

My question is this: He has patches of skin all over his torso (ie, not on his head or approx 1" of tail) that look different. I don't really know how to describe it, other than they are duller than the other skin, but they don't look anything like the stuck shed that was on his tail, and they feel slightly rubbery. The soak didn't make any difference for those patches and I didn't mess with them. Does anyone know what this is and what I can do about it? Is it scale rot?

He is in a glass tank with aluminum foil over 85% of the screen top, hot side is 93, cool side is about 83. Humidity hovers around 55%, but once I noticed he was in blue I started misting to get it up around 70%.

Thanks in advance for any help or insight. I'll try to get some pictures tonight.

    Re: Possible shed issue?

    Hi,

The patches might be where the top layer of the new scale got attatched to the shed skin.

Usually if you just pay a little more attention into getting everything fine for the next shed cycle it should be fine.

That said there are other issues which can affect the shed so if you just got him I wouldn't panic just yet.

Hopefully next shed will be perfect for you.

    Re: Possible shed issue?

Thanks for the reply! We just got him about 2 months ago, and have been struggling with getting the husbandry right. It's only been in the last 3 weeks that we got things under control, so that contributed to the less than perfect shed.

I'll keep an eye on him to make sure nothing changes for the worse, but otherwise I'll wait to see if it clears up in the next shed.

    Thanks again!
